How we use our online resources:
The Cheadle Academy are aware that using ICT and the Internet helps students to learn. It also increases focus and engagement. Students will be asked to use technology in school to provide and enhance learning opportunities.
We will ask students to access sites that allows interactions between each other and teachers (e.g The Cheadle Academy email (@thecheadleacademy.co.uk) , Microsoft Teams and organisational tools such as Classcharts. (Your child will not communicate with anyone from The Cheadle Academy without a @thecheadleacademy.co.uk email address)
We will direct our students towards websites that provide multimedia as a tool for learning. This will help students to visualise what is being taught in school by our teachers.
We will also provide students access to educational platforms that are specifically designed for curriculum subject areas such as Maths, English, Science and SEND.
Our ICT systems at The Cheadle Academy also provide a safe space for research to gather information and broaden our student’s knowledge in a number of disciplines.
Online Safety In School:
All computer activity at The Cheadle Academy is monitored by our Lead ICT Technician & Designated teachers using Impero’s leading edge classroom management software. This includes how academy equipment has been used when off-site (as soon as devices are reconnected to our network).
This allows us to monitor student and staff use of our systems and devices for safeguarding purposes, including preventing radicalisation.
It is reassuring to know that our classroom monitoring tools detect any inappropriate access and real-time screen viewing is available and can be monitored network wide; we also have keyword databases that are customised to identify the use of inappropriate language and viewing on the school network, sending immediate screen shots to our monitoring team. This is acheived through Securus.
Securus ensures that the monitoring software can pre-empt detection of new and emerging threats alongside established sources and types of online risk. The primary focus is always to monitor, safeguard and protect the welfare and online safety of children and young adults.
You can find out more about 'securus' by visiting the website About - Securus (securus-software.com) where they have provided a short video clip that explains in more detail.
All our internet is supplied by RM Safety net via our online website filtering designed specifically for schools. Again, you can find out more by clicking on this link - RM SafetyNet - Internet filtering designed for schools
A key priority for us at The Cheadle Academy is ensuring our students are aware of the need to use social media, technology, mobile phones and other IT devices thoughtfully and respectfully.
We take our responsibilities in relation to e-safety very seriously but we are very aware that the majority of children’s use of computers and mobile phones takes place outside of The Cheadle Academy. As such, we recognise that parents and carers also have a key role to play. and have collected a range of useful information which we urge parents to review.
The Cheadle Academy regally produces e-safety newsletters that may be found useful in helping to protect youngsters at home.
