Frequently Asked Questions
When will my child’s pouch be unlocked?
Pouches will be unlocked by students at the end of the day using wall mounted unlocking stations positioned near the student exit. It’s a quick process that does not impact learning time. There will be multiple stations to prevent congestion as well as staff on duty with hand held unlocking devices.
What if my child forgets to unlock their pouch?
Reception has an unlocking device and will assist if needed.
What if a child forgets their pouch?
Spare pouches may be available at reception. These are limited in number so students may be asked to leave their phone at reception to be collected at the end of the day. However, if a pouch is damaged or lost, a replacement will be issued, and parents may be charged.
Will this delay students getting to school buses?
No. The unlocking process is swift and won’t cause delays. Local bus services are being informed as a precaution.
Who holds the unlocking devices?
Key staff will have access to unlocking devices in addition to the wall mounted unlocking stations.
Why implement this now – can’t current policies just be enforced?
Traditional policies are often difficult to apply consistently. The pouch system ensures fair enforcement across the school and removes temptation entirely. We've seen excellent results in schools where this has been introduced.
What if a child tries to cheat the system (e.g. uses a second phone or smartwatch)?
Students attempting to bypass the policy will receive time in Reflection. Repeated breaches will result in increased sanctions.
Will my child be able to unlock their pouch during the day?
No. Once the pouches are locked phones will remain in there until the end of the day when the wall mounted lockers will also be unlocked allowing students to use them.
What about a situation where I need to contact my child?
Parents are to contact reception where we will then be able to support.
Can students leave their phones at home instead?
Yes. Students are welcomed to leave mobile devices at home.
