The Cheadle Academy

World Book Day

Once Upon a Time, at The Cheadle Academy . . .

there was a mad hatter’s tea party, quizzes aplenty, a terribly taxing treasure hunt and lots of quality reading time, all for World Book Day!

The events were hosted by Year 7 students resplendent in costumes of characters from their favourite books.  Their guests, equally brilliantly dressed, came from Primary schools from Dilhorne to Werrington and all over the Staffordshire Moorlands.

Principal of The Cheadle Academy, Neil Jamieson, said how splendid everyone looked and was pleased to judge and announce the winners of the fancy dress competition.  In first place was Mad Hatter, Dylan Rushton, a Y5 pupil at Great Wood Primary in Tean, in second was Zaphod Beeblebrox from Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Meredith Day, a Y7 student from The Cheadle Academy and in third place Matilda, Molly Goodwin, a Y4 pupil from St. Werburgh’s Primary school.

The Academy’s Lead for English, Ms Vicky Wilkinson, said, ‘it was such a pleasure to share our favourite books together and talk about why we enjoy them so much.  Our Y7 students were perfect hosts and enjoyed sharing their love of reading with their guests.’

Students and accompanying staff were unanimous in rating the event as ‘awesome’, and everyone is already looking forward to the next World Book Day!
