Christmas at TCA
December 2017
A Frenzy of Festive Fundraising
As we go to press, there is a frenzied air of fundraising up and down the corridors at The Cheadle Academy! Students have been coming up with a 101 and more innovative ways to make money for some very worthy Cancer charities.
Ideas have ranged from: a present hunt, penalty shootout, lucky dips, raffles, tombolas, chocolate bingo, a staff Talent Show to a great ‘Christmas Bake Off’ and something that was exceedingly welcome in the cold weather, a Hot Chocolate Coffee Shop! For two weeks now tutor groups have brought festive fundraising to the masses! A brilliantly huge well done to all involved, we are so proud of you all. Totals to follow in the New Year!
An Ice Incentive!
Proving that great attendance and lots of hard work pays off, students in Years 7 and 8 waited with anticipation to discover who the latest winners of Planet Ice tickets and goodies would be.
It is nearly a year now since Planet Ice formed a partnership with The Cheadle Academy to promote positive attitudes about coming to school. During that time, many students have enjoyed rewards such as VIP entry to events and parties such as the Subzero Jingle Bell Foam Party that will take place at the cinebowl-iskate in Uttoxeter on Friday 22nd December from 7.30 pm – 10.00 pm!
Cue drumroll... the recipients of the big prizes for this term were:
Year 7 - Esme Langridge - Top Student in Year 7; Aria Aberley-Barker - dedication to cross country and fantastic results representing the school and the county.
Year 8 - Amy Whilcock - Top Student in Year 8; Lewis Hughes - fantastic attitude to school and school work whilst being in hospital and having several operations on his foot, always having a smile on his face throughout adversity!
The students named above have won a place at the End of Term extravaganza at Planet Ice.
George Claypole, Katie Fairfield and ? also won prizes on the day Planet Ice visited us in school - including entry to the Christmas Jumper Party and unlimited slush for the night!
All Year 7/8 students who got 100% attendance were also awarded with 2 free tickets to go skating! They are:
A huge well done to everyone and enjoy your prizes!

Santa’s little helpers!
We were delighted and very proud to hear that some Y9 students from The Cheadle Academy have been volunteering with the Round Table on their annual Christmas journey around Cheadle. Accompanying Santa and his sleigh and collecting donations from the public were Mia Saxby, Emily Kinder, Demi Poole, Keisha Pye and Leah Jackson.
The Round Table has generously offered to contribute to our Cancer Charities, as all the students have been out collecting at least once and some three, four or more times!
It was Mia and Emily who got the ball rolling, Mia said, ‘it was a great opportunity to do something in the community that would support not only local charities but our own chosen Cancer charities in memory of Mr Beverley’.
It’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas...
One of the parents attending last week’s Christmas concert said, ‘I now feel like Christmas can begin!’ Such is the impact of our brilliant choirs, musicians and song choices. This year was just superb and testament to many hours of rehearsals. Mrs Goodhew, teacher of music said, ‘we now have more people than ever involved in singing at The Academy and I am extremely proud of their commitment to our choirs, ensemble groups and personal musical journeys’.
Thank you!
A huge thank you to our Catering Team for another term of food glorious food! Once again they excelled with a full Christmas Dinner menu on 6th December that was much enjoyed by all. Look out for more tasty treats, familiar favourites and super healthy options in 2018.
