Technology
It is the intention of the Technology department to foster the creativity of students, so that they can allow their minds to enquire without judgement. Through knowledge of the design process, students develop problem-solving abilities and evaluate the “Why’s, Where’s and What’s” that must be considered when developing a product. Students learn to evaluate and discuss how a product can be further improved or developed or how solution can be developed to overcome a design flaw. We intent to foster theoretical knowledge alongside practical skills, to support and encourage the equiring mind.
Technology encompasses both Design Technology, and Cooking & Nutrition:
Design and Technology (D&T) is the inspiring, rigorous and practical subject which prepares all young people to live and work in the designed and made world. The main focus is the iterative design cycle as a design methodology; based on a cyclic process of prototyping, testing, analysing, and refining a product or process. The final aspect of this cycle is the based on the testing the most recent iteration of a design, changes and refinements are made.
In Cooking and Nutrition students are taught how to become competent in a range of cooking processes such as selecting and preparing ingredients, using utensils and electrical equipment and how to adapt their own recipes. Looking at health implications and cultural differences and how food nutrition and preparation have an impact on society.

Design and Technology at The Cheadle Academy intends to provide all students with knowledge of the understanding technology for the world they live in. Design and Technology gives young people the skills and abilities to engage positively in the New and Emerging world of Technology. Students will learn to critically analyse a problem using the fundaments of design and iteration, questioning solutions as they proceed through the design process. They will learn how products and systems are designed and manufactured how to be innovative and creative using a variety of resources including traditional time served methods and new and exciting emerging technologies. As a department we stride to provide opportunities which allow students to develop skills in KS3 Product Design focusing on Structures, Properties of Materials, understanding of the Design Process, Iterative Process, and Food and Nutrition which embed skills for the rigors of GCSE. AQA Design and Technology and Hospitality and Catering Level 1-2. Staff seek to equip all students with a set of transferable skills which enhance their view of the world in which they live and enable them to critically analyse and formulate a successful solution to any given problem within Technology.

The Site Team club has been launched in response to student demand for students who wish to use their practical skills to improve our site for the enjoyment of their peers.
Cooking club meets fortnightly after-school to develop practical skills and to tackle more ambitious bakes than can be accomplished during a one-year lesson.
