Music
SUBJECT INTENT |

Subject |
Through the study of music, it is our intention that students gain a wider appreciation and passion for music, and their musical curiosity will be provoked. Through the study of a variety of traditional, cultural and contemporary approaches, we open that door to a world of possible musical styles. Students have the opportunity to try different instruments, to learn about aspects of the music industry, musical devices and modern-day technology. They gain skills to allow them to create their own music by themselves. Students gain the knowledge and language to describe musical genres, conventions and instrumentation. They gain self-confidence through practice and performance, and gain the analytical and evaluative skills needed to discuss what they hear and experience in greater depth. They learn to communicate in novel ways, through musical notation, and, by making music with others, learn to listen, collaborate and respond with patience and empathy. |
